Gas Turbine Arriving for a Major Repair

Major Gas Turbine Repairs

The refurbishment of a Major Assembly (gas generator, power turbine or engine core) from a customer’s gas turbine, utilising IMS repair facilities.

Industrial gas turbines have traditionally been designed for servicing on site. However with the increasing sophistication of modern gas turbine technology this is not always desirable or practicable and maintenance is required to be performed in a properly equipped workshop. IMS have gas turbine overhaul facilities in Inverurie, Scotland.

The overhaul facility in Scotland has a full range of capability on the Ruston TA, TB and Tornado range of gas turbines. The TB gas generator test facility was commissioned in 2004 and has the capability of testing all marks and variations of the TB machine (TB3000, TB4000, TB5000, TB5400, up-duct, down-duct, etc). The Tornado test facility was commissioned in 2007.

When a customer sends a Major Assembly to IMS for refurbishment, an IMS Overhaul Engineer is assigned to oversee the full overhaul procedure and to communicate the status of the gas turbine overhaul to the customer. This ensures that the customer is kept up-to-date with the progress of the machine refurbishment and any problems that are encountered with it.
